Time to backtrack. Sometimes It Happens was told in chapters alternating between the present Hannah's first day of 12th grade and the past her intense summer after junior year. On the last day of her junior year, Hannah's boyfriend, Sebastian, cheats on her and leaves her with a broken heart. Luckily, she has her best friend Ava to help her recover. One thing is for certain- this is going to be a summer to never forget.
Hannah was such a likable character and her humor and wittiness made me like her even more. While she did make some bad decisions, Hannah is someone I would want to be friends with in real life. She was honest and you could tell how much she cared for her friends. Reading about her work at the diner was another great side story.
Not enough YA characters have jobs summer or otherwise and it always adds a lot to the book and makes the character even more realistic. Lacey was another fantastic secondary character. Her hypochondria added a fun and entertaining aspect to her character and she was a great friend to both Hannah and Noah.
I adored the way Sometimes It Happens was told. The different chapters left it nearly impossible to put the book down, especially since most of them ended in cliffhangers. Each and every character in Sometimes It Happens was so real I felt like they might just step off the page at any moment. Everything that happened had a believable outcome and all of the characters were faced with difficult decisions. Lauren portrayed all of her characters and their situations so realistically and I loved every minute of it.
I felt for Hannah when things got tough, but I only wanted the best for her. Lauren Barnholdt has written a fantastic contemporary novel with Sometimes It Happens and I can't wait to start sharing this with all of my friends. For fans of Sarah Dessen and Elizabeth Scott, this book should be added to everyone's summer wishlist. Overall: 5 out of 5 stars. Source: Publisher ARC. Other books by this author: Two Way Street.

The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Ryan, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think Until Sometimes It Happens. And, wow, did I love this book! Contemporary novels are my favorite and Sometimes It Happens was a fantastic addition to the genre. Brimming with drama, humor, romance, and adventure- this book had it all.
I especially liked the alternating chapters from the summer to the first day of school and how everything tied together. Plus all the characters were fantastic and completely realistic! Hannah had one crazy summer and she is now dreading the first day of her senior year. Because this day will bring together Hannah and the three people she just can't bear to see.
After a summer filled with drama, love, and betrayal- Hannah doesn't know what to do. Time to backtrack. The question is will they overcome the prejudices made by society and write their happily ever after or will they let go of each other? This book carries a very relevant message and i. My problem with this book is that most of the problems happening between Gautam and Roshni is not even age related, its lack of communication related.
Hear me out!
He runs away to Singapore without even working things out with Roshni. How difficult is that? And will you people just stop thinking things to yourself and start talking to each other? All you need to do is sit, talk about your limitations and reach a middle ground. That brings me to the disastrous Sunday of theirs. Honestly, every single thing that happened that day was again because of lack of communication and not because one person is older than the other.
All they do is, presume things, make decisions without discussing with each other and then they blame the society for everything that is wrong in their lives. Which is hardly the same thing many people will say about their parents. The only remotely interesting character in this book was honestly, Rohit, he is cool, fun and he has a few awesome lines, which made me laugh. The last thing, I would like to add here is that this book needs an editor and a proof reader.
I never nit-pick on grammatical and punctuation errors in books but the amount of errors I picked up in this book gave me a headache like literally, there are so many punctuation errors in almost every single page. I picked up so many wrong sentence structure and lines which ended abruptly. I would like to add here that I read an e-book version bought from Amazon so I am not aware if the same can be said about the paperback version but the e-book is a disaster.
It would still be entertaining if the writing was any good but well… you can pick this up if you are looking for something light and fluffy to read.
Blog Facebook Twitter Instagram Feb 26, Hastha Chand rated it liked it. When Gautham expressed his wish to marry Roshini to his friend Rohit, he puts up various scenarios where their marriage life might suffer because of the huge age difference between them. Rohit's 'might have happen' scenarios terrified Gautam to reconsider his decision on marrying Roshini. Thus the perplexed Gautam grabbed the on-site offer and fled to Singapore leaving Roshini all alone without saying a word. But the separation only deepens his love for her. So Gautam fled back to Mumbai and proposed his ladylove.
When all was set to go well, Roshini's friend Sonal takes the turn and replaces Rohit in pointing out the 'might have happen' scenario which gave second thoughts to Roshini. Now, will she listen to her heart and take the right decision or will she listen to her mind and leave Gautum for once and all who are waiting for her arrival at the wedding stage? That you have to find it by yourself by grabbing a copy of your own. Narration and the storyline are good enough to make the reader stick to the plot. The author's main focus was on the two main characters, therefore, other characters were given little importance but they all had served their purpose well.
I don't want to go much in criticising about character development. The scenarios that had been put forward by various characters had one question in common i. When the next moment of our life is not promised, how moronic of these people to think that she will leave her earthly life before him just because she is elder. What wondered me was, not once they had thought the other way around as if his life is promised to eternity.
Anyways overall, it's a quick one time read. My Rating: 2. Feb 18, Priya Arun rated it really liked it. Sometimes it Happens by Karan Sharma is a fiction work and falls under romance genre. About the book: The plot of the story is so practical as we can judge with the current Society having marriages with age difference. But the societal barrier is one such thing that always come in between even if two hearts likely to move forward. But society never fails to point out things when it goes out of line even though, they society have so many problems on their own. Love is blind is one true saying and age is not a barrier for it. I liked about the humor thing described, especially when Gautam proposes a 60 years old woman.
For a moment I thought she was the one he meant to love in this story but thank God it was not so.
My contact list does not load up. It happens sometimes and sometimes it loads and then it is OK.
Full of love, emotions, anger, friendship and relationship blended together formed this beautiful story and appreciate the authors effort to do so. This book is a short bite with a pragmatic storyline and the language kept simple. The pacing of the story is precise and intact. The characters were placed appropriately without fading over a period. Overall it was a nice read and I would recommend to readers who are fan of romance genre.
My ratings are 3. Jul 30, Kiranmayi rated it liked it. Roshni is thirty seven, an independent and highly successful woman working in a global bank at a senior position. A chance interaction during a project work and later in a restaurant brings her close to her junior at work, Gautam who is a twenty five year old young, charming, talented and promising guy. The attraction is mutual as they both hit it off from their first day of interaction. Three months of supposed dating and Gautam is ready to propose to Roshni for marriage as he feels he never the same with anyone else until he came across Roshni.
As Gautam starts discussing his plans with his close buddy and colleague Rohit, Rohit puts across supposed issues this relationship might face in future owing to the twelve long years of age gap between Gautam and Roshni. The basic premise of exploring love story between two individuals with a huge age gap with the woman being the elder one in a patriarchal society which shies away from such relationships is a good one to start with.
The opinions of the protagonist's close friends and family only further mirrors popular opinion about such relationships which are viewed as centered around power, money and lust and not around pure love. The book explores a lot of such pertinent opinions and taboos that are deep rooted around and generally end up spoiling strong relationships. However, the narration falls flat with each conflict and each sequence ending in a known fashion. The cliched treatment brings down the otherwise fresh concept. The cliched treatment brings down the otherwise good concept. Pick this one to read a fresh take on love stories and how a not-so-conventional relationship can survive.
Mar 05, Ankita Singh rated it really liked it Shelves: arcs. Sometimes It Happens told a tale of a romance between two people with an age gap of twelve years. The storyline was pretty simple and predictable, but the characters definitely managed to spice it up, especially Rohit. The story was akin to a Bollywood movie, and it shared many qualities of a Bollywood movie too, including the flaw that such movies are always unable to resist. The way how Sometimes It Happens told a tale of a romance between two people with an age gap of twelve years. The way how things just happen all of a sudden.
Once chapter ends with the guy walking with a girl in a different country, next chapter begins with him back in India proposing another girl. And that wasn't the only instance. I'm not saying that the author should've written ever moment down, but he should've at least shown the character contemplating his moves, rather than just doing it out of the blue. Other than that, though, Sometimes It Happens was a sweet, fun filled read and I enjoyed reading it!
Mar 14, Ipshita rated it really liked it Shelves: contemporary , cr-hr-pnr , review , asian , reads. Sometimes It Happens is the love story of a younger man and an older woman. Gautam, the 25 yrs old protagonist, is convinced he is in love. His love interest being, Roshni, an independent and established single woman who is seemingly the perfect lady anyone can find. Her beauty and quiet charm thoroughly enchants Gautam, so much so that he is prepared to propose marriage after only a few months of dating. Their only problem - a large age difference with Roshni being 12 years older than Gautam.
N Sometimes It Happens is the love story of a younger man and an older woman. This book tries to bring up all the major issues and stigma attached to such a relationship. Through their friends and family, the issues of compatibility, different life styles and expectations and even the topic of family planning is dealt with here. This provokes the erstwhile enthusiastic Gautam to consider his relationship from the perspective of age bias, doubts quickly douse his ardour and he finds himself trying to run in the opposite direction.
However, escaping true love is seldom that easy, is it? And when he realises his true wish, he has to make a choice and stick with it until the end which he does, and wonderfully too. I believe this is a good book to spend a nice weekend with. Even so the main characters are likeable and the writing flows smoothly with snippets of humour here and there to keep the pace interesting.
Simplicity does suit certain stories, but a little spice may have added more shades and layers to this one. My sincere thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. Feb 24, Disha Ray rated it really liked it. Feb 07, Zainab Fatima rated it liked it. Bounded by the age gap of 12 years and societal norms they fall for each other. Do their love get acceptance? Do they end up getting married? This book with a simple and naive cover holds lots of surprises. Narration and Characterization- Narration is simple with easy read.
Limited characters made the book pretty facile. The book deals with "Sometimes It Happens" by Karan Sharma is an epic love story of a twenty-five year old corporate boy Gautam and his senior employ Roshini. The book deals with the different scenarios and hindrances the couple faced due to their age gap. The author has portrait a unique and a much needed plot exquisitely. The descriptive details of Rohit Gautam's freind at the beginning of the story made me assume that Rohit himself is the protoganist but later read gave the surprises.
To me it felt like a pure bollywood movie with a different and a good plot. Feb 14, Krutika Puranik rated it it was ok. Sometimes it happens. Love trumps over everything but will Roshni be able to keep up with Gautam's youthfulness? Or will her age creep in and mess up their compatibility? Read the book to know if they'll actually make it to the end of the race. But there were serious flaws in the story. Firstly, I wasn't too fond of couple of characters, one of them being Rohit, who was Gautam's friend. He was too cocky and arrogant to say the least.
The plot was very simple and I already knew how the story would end by just reading few chapters. There wasn't any solid factor that seemed to bring the story together. I was hoping to see some plot twist but couldn't find any till the very end. All this turned the story into a very plain and simple read. Nevertheless, it will make a good beginner's read who are into romance genre.

I'd like to applaud the author for his flair in writing. Mar 18, Fanna rated it did not like it Shelves: releases , hauled-in , beat-the-backlist , physical-review-copy , own-a-physical-copy. Finished this last night and ugh, didn't like it at all. But now this is here to accompany that book.
This review is filled with spoilers but trust me, there's nothing so amazing that you'll be spoiled. Honestly, the story doesn't have any conflict. None at all.
The only thing everyone was worried about was the twelve-year age gap between the guy and the girl. But st Finished this last night and ugh, didn't like it at all. But still!!! And then there's no problem. But suddenly he has stopped talking to this girl he loves 37 because he's shifting to Singapore so I guess he doesn't want to break her heart or some other shit of that sort. Well, why not talk? Why the forced, unnecessary lack of communication?
Talking to each other is a very basic relationship etiquette. Then there's another girl who goes along with this guy to Singapore so now you're sensing a love triangle, some sort of conflict. But don't get your hopes high because this girl was probably for just a cameo and a quick kiss that makes our hero realize how much he loves the year-old woman. Good for him.
